I know: this photoblog seems biased in favour of the chronicles of matchfishing events, but things are about to change. The second edition of Italian Master disputed last Saturday, 12 November was the last competition that I’d attend this year. Not an official match, no championship, but just a meeting with over 900 gentlemen who competed in pairs on Ostellato banks. This article and another one yet, then it will be just pêche au coup techniques, predator fishing, photography and… something else. I promise!

Lo so: questo photoblog sembra sbilanciato sulle cronache di manifestazioni agonistiche, ma le cose stanno per cambiare. L’Italian Master disputato lo scorso sabato 12 novembre ha rappresentato l’ultima competizione da me seguita per quest’anno. Non una gara ufficiale, nessun campionato, solo un meeting con oltre 900 signori che hanno gareggiato a coppie sulle sponde di Ostellato. Questo pezzo e un altro ancora quindi, poi sarà solo tecniche di pesca al colpo, predator fishing, fotografia e… qualcos’altro. Lo prometto!

The first smile I met on the bank. Cold, it was very cold on Saturday early morning as you can see by the Syberian hat on the front of this friendly angler. The low temperatures in the days just before the event had influenced the behavior of the fish.

Il primo sorriso che ho incontrato lungo la sponda. Faceva freddo, molto freddo sabato mattina presto come potete vedere dal copricapo siberiano sulla fronte di questo partecipante. Le basse temperature degli ultimi giorni hanno influenzato il comportamento dei pesci.

Fouillis. This French word literally means disorder, confusion; I guess it’s not necessary to explain the reason why. Their ondulating movements increase the ability to capture oxygen and make them stand out in the eyes of predators: this is the reason for their success as a bait.

Fouillis. Questa parola francese significa letteralmente disordine, confusione; credo non sia necessario spiegarne il motivo. I movimenti convulsi che in acqua caratterizza queste larve sono funzionali alla cattura delle molecole di ossigeno, oltre che a renderli evidenti agli occhi dei predatori: questa è la ragione del loro successo come esche.

The bright red colour of Chironomidae larvae like vers de vase is due to the presence of hemoglobin in their hemolynph. The oxygen is captured by this molecule.

Il colore rosso brillante delle larve di chironomidi come il ver de vase è dovuto alla presenza di emoglobina nella loro emolinfa. É questa molecola che fissa l’ossigeno.

Tips completely painted black. On Ostellato banks there’s a very difficult light due to the frontal position of the sun to the anglers and believe me, that’s a kind of light hard to deal with even for a photographer. What you see in the photo are Jacopo’s floats.

Antenne completamente dipinte di nero. Ad Ostellato c’è una luce molto difficile a causa della posizione frontale assunta dal sole rispetto ai partecipanti, e credetemi che non è facile da gestire nemmeno per un fotografo. Quelli della foto sono i galleggianti di Jacopo.
